AHRO HIV Prevention Programme

“This is what I refer to as genocide. But the problem of this genocide unlike the tragic ones in Rwanda, Darfur, Sudan, Bosnia, etc is that we do not experience it effect at once. HIV/AIDS has touched every home in Africa and continue to cause untold hardship”
Abubakar Yaro during a seminar in Accra.

INTRODUCTION

HIV/AIDS is causing so much pain in Sub-Saharan Africa is definitely understatement. The older generation are burying the younger generation, prevailing health system cannot bear the pressure and the virus is taking more deadly turn. HIV/AIDS is not like other infections. It cannot be transmitted in contaminated water, food like cholera or through causal kiss .The transmission of the virus required an active participation of individuals in activities which results in exchange of body fluids. This means theoretically, HIV/AIDS can be prevented. But why is it that since the world was awakened to a deadly virus which does not respect any boarder, the pandemic is still raging?
The Africa Health Research Organization plays active role in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“Care for us and accept us- we are all human beings… We can walk, we can talk, we have needs just like everyone else-don’t be afraid of us-we are all the same”

The Late Nkosi Johnson at the 13th International AIDS Conference in Durban South Africa.

Scientific Researchers

The world is bracing itself to the fact that HIV/AIDS is here to stay. This means we have to continue researching to find better ways of treatment, develop more drugs which are better than the ones available, find better ways of dealing with opportunistic infections and other non-communicable co-morbidities like cancer, hypertension and diabetes. However the advent of HAART saw HIV- infected subjects having an improved quality of life but that came with its own problem: Immune Reconstitution Syndrome.

AHRO is collaboration with its partners is working hard around the clock on different project towards these missions.
